Programs

Beginnings Preschool & Early Learning Centers programs provide children with the foundation they need to succeed in school and in life. Our preschool/early learning center offers a variety of programs to meet the needs of all children, from toddlers to pre-K. Our programs focus on social-emotional development, literacy, math, science, and the arts. We also offer Special Visitors: Fire Dept, Farmer, Library Lady, etc.

Our experienced teachers are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where children can learn and grow.

The philosophy at Beginnings is one of a multi-sensory, hands-on approach to learning. It is our goal to educate and prepare the whole child, not just in the academic sense but on a social, emotional, physical and spiritual level as well.

Toddlers

Through our weekly themes the children expand their view of the world around them. Kindness, consideration of others, manners and respect are developed throughout the age levels. Building a positive self concept in each and every child is essential to the child’s success and well being. Children at all age levels are taught science, art, music, drama and social studies which are woven throughout the curriculum.
The toddler class ranges in age from 12-24 months. For most of the children this is their first exposure to a group setting. The teachers are particularly loving and nurturing with them as they adjust to their new environment. Some of the areas of focus are on language development, self-help skills, fine and gross motor development, social skills, cooperative play, listening, and following directions. Throughout the day the children enjoy music, art, dance, being read to, carpet and center play, all under the watchful eye of the teachers. The toddler area of our lovely outside playground has swings, a sand table, climbers and plenty of open grassy space for them to play ball and run.

Two Yr. Olds

Through our weekly themes the children expand their view of the world around them. Kindness, consideration of others, manners and respect are developed throughout the age levels. Building a positive self concept in each and every child is essential to the childs success and well being. Children at all age levels are taught science, art, music, drama and social studies which are woven throughout the curriculum.
For the majority of the children this is their first preschool experience. These children in particular require a great deal of nurturing, warmth and guidance from the teachers. In both our older and younger two year programs the major emphasis is on social and language development. Some of the skills we will be teaching the two year olds are fine and gross motor skills, eye-hand coordination, cooperative play, vocabulary building, listening, following directions, sharing, taking turns, and visual memory. Basic pre-reading and pre-math skills are introduced through rote counting, matching, classification, sequencing skills- left to right, name recognition and basic colors and shapes. The children do not have to be potty trained for this age group. It is a skill we will work on throughout the year. The children do have to be fully potty trained in order to move up to the three year old class.

Three Yr. Olds

Through our weekly themes the children expand their view of the world around them. Kindness, consideration of others, manners and respect are developed throughout the age levels. Building a positive self concept in each and every child is essential to the child’s success and well being. Children at all age levels are taught science, art, music, drama and social studies which are woven throughout the curriculum.
The three year old program builds on the skills acquired in the twos. The level of competency has escalated to allow for more focus on the academic skills along with continuing the social, emotional, physical and spiritual growth. Number recognition and the concept of the numbers along with phonics and letter recognition are integral parts of the weekly lessons. Each week the class focuses on one particular letter and the sound that letter makes and one number and what that number represents. The letter, phonics sound and the number are integrated into all of the week’s activities. Independence skills and using the classroom materials appropriately are a focus as well. Self care tasks such as being able to manipulate zippers, buttons, and snaps are important for self esteem and independence.

Pre-K

Children at all age levels are taught science, art, music, drama and social studies which are woven throughout the curriculum.
Our Pre-Kindergarten program is the final step in the process of preparing the children for “big school”. The emphasis here is on the children’s kindergarten readiness skills, independence, confidence, and love of learning. The children learn sight words, sound blends and phonemic awareness to assist in reading. Patterning, sorting, classification and number concepts prepare the children for learning higher math skills. Our pre-kindergarten teachers provide daily opportunities for increasing comprehension, listening and recall, fine motor and writing ability, beginning reading, vocabulary, creative thinking, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills. Our children leave for kindergarten as well-rounded, excited, competent individuals off to face the world.
When they graduate from Beginnings, many of our children are accepted into the best private schools and gifted programs in the public schools. Our children consistently achieve some of the highest scores in the county on the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment. These assesments are administered once the children enter kindergarten. That, along with our outstanding reputation within the community since 1984, confirms our ability to prepare children to be successful in school.

Summer Program

Beginnings is a year-round school. Our summer program is theme-based and is a time of fun, games, water play, enrichment activities and continued learning. We alternate our summer program themes to provide a variety of learning experiences for the children.
Over the years, our children have “traveled” to Africa, China, Australia, England, Ireland, Italy and many other countries. They have experienced in depth learning about the United States, “traveling” across our diverse country, including Hawaii and Alaska.
Beginnings children have even “traveled” into outer space, learning about astronauts, spacecraft launches, planets and the heavens.
God’s world has been another theme for the summer program as we combined science and Biblical verses to teach children about astronomy, sea life, earth and minerals, plants, animals, ecology, weather, insects and human beings.
